WE ARE YOUNG, WILD AND FREE - Review

Image
YOUNG WILD FREE CAFE, SATYANIKETAN Satyaniketan is now overburdened with responsibility. Given that it has its twin in GTB Nagar at North Campus, Satyaniketan has become the hub for eateries in South Campus of the University of Delhi. Everyday, thousands of students walk through the lanes of the market. New eateries pop up every other day and some fail miserably, but this one has made its presence known by probably combining everything good about the other cafes under one roof. THE AMBIENCE Young Wild Free Cafe is a tad bit hard to find, given that it is on the first floor right at the end of the lane at Satyaniketan. A narrow stairway that leads up to a slide up door is really underwhelming. The stairway leading up the cafe is squeaky and wobbles when you step on it, making you think you're going to fall. EXCITING EVEN BEFORE YOU ENTER! The cafe is rocking good high-bass music and is well lit with a yellow tone to the place. The walls are covered in many differ...

REPORTING TO DUTY! 38 Barracks - Review

Image
Connaught Place, the heart of Delhi has a special aura about it. Whenever you come across people who're new to the Capital, the first place they want to go to is probably Connaught Place. And the hype has been due to the rise of the gastronomical extravaganza provided my multiple restaurants opening up in the beautiful white architecture! And one of these very hip establishments being, 38 Barracks. THE AMBIENCE A bright red exterior welcomes you to Block-L of CP's outer circle and the board reads 38 BARRACKS. The definition of Barracks being, "A large building housing a group of soldiers", which is justified by the look and feel of 38 Barracks. Beautiful decor that goes well with the interiors of a Military Base. Firearms on the walls, vintage paintings and a dark ambience sets the mood for the Fight For Food to come. The time I went to the place, they had live music. Which added to the occasion and set the pace for a good evening to come. The service i...

SCOOT OVER A LITTLE BIT! REVIEW- SCOOTER ON THE WALL, SDA MARKET!

Image
"Let's go to Scooter." "I can't see it." "It's at the end of the market. Look for the Scooter. Duh." The literal scooter on the wall didn't stand out, but Scooter on the Wall did! Located in HKV's lesser known sister market, SDA, Scooter on the Wall looks like a small door through an office building. But once you step inside, it's so much more. I didn't catch the overall theme of the place, but it was comforting. A tone of mustard and orange set a nice and calm mood. Large swinging seats were perfect for hours of good food, good music and good conversations. The service was commendable as they let my friend wait for us alone at a table for 6. (DON'T JUDGE US FOR BEING LATE. DELHI TRAFFIC DURING MONSOON SUCKS) A printed out menu awaited us as we were welcomed by VH1 and the smell of Hookahs. The place was full and not a seat empty. Except ours. BECAUSE WE WERE FASHIONABLY LATE. We ordered quite a load for 3 p...

STEP THROUGH THE BIG YELLOW DOOR

Image
It's been more than an year since I've been a student in the University of Delhi and it's also been more than an year since I read about Big Yellow Door (GTB-Nagar) on Zomato. Almost every foodie I know has been to this place. My family, my friends, my neighbors, my long lost phuphi jaan from Ajmer have been to BYD.It was about time I gave this place a visit. Given the hype of the place, a 10 minute wait period was justified (Even though it is exam season). But the place is very vibrant, even on the outside. With it's fun multicolored benches outside and it's um well Big Yellow Door to welcome it's guests. The decor is too random, but the shady lighting and music gives it a lounge-esque feel (with tables and chairs though). However, the service of the place could be improved. Anybody and everybody who's in the staff can wipe tables, take orders, handle the cash register and be the Maitre D'. My waiter was nice, however the one s...
