REPORTING TO DUTY! 38 Barracks - Review

38 Barracks Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Connaught Place, the heart of Delhi has a special aura about it. Whenever you come across people who're new to the Capital, the first place they want to go to is probably Connaught Place. And the hype has been due to the rise of the gastronomical extravaganza provided my multiple restaurants opening up in the beautiful white architecture! And one of these very hip establishments being, 38 Barracks.

THE AMBIENCE

A bright red exterior welcomes you to Block-L of CP's outer circle and the board reads 38 BARRACKS. The definition of Barracks being, "A large building housing a group of soldiers", which is justified by the look and feel of 38 Barracks. Beautiful decor that goes well with the interiors of a Military Base. Firearms on the walls, vintage paintings and a dark ambience sets the mood for the Fight For Food to come. The time I went to the place, they had live music. Which added to the occasion and set the pace for a good evening to come. The service is friendly and they're willing to set right any issue you have. In need of a charger? They'll provide their personal ones to make you happy!

THE FOOD

You're welcomed by the french concept of an amouse-bouche, a small bite-sized item before the start of the appetisers. A block of watermelon filled with what was either ricotta or creme cheese. Very refreshing!

Clash of Clans: Their version of Surf and Turf. Fried Fish served with some sort of  roasted chicken. Loved the contrast of the two proteins. Probably the best version of Fish and Chips, where Chips were Chicken!

Serrano Chicken: When Led Zepplin wrote Stairway to Heaven, they knew 38 Barracks would make their Serrano Chicken. Massive chunks of chicken in Serrano sauce, served with the typical chutneys in syringes ON A STAIRCASE. Really takes you by surprise when you see what you ordered.

Peri Peri Chicken Pizza: FIRE IN THE HOLE. You'll feel the burn of the spice sooner or later. Cooked really well!

Chicken Dimsums: Probably the one dish on the menu that you can avoid. Because serving dimsums in a city of Momos, you have to have something special. This one didn't. But to curb your cravings, go ahead!

Main Course: For the main course we had Kadhai Chicken, Dal Makhani and an assortment of breads. The Chicken, again, MASSIVE CHUNKS in a brilliantly spiced gravy. The Dal Makhani, a staple for the Vegetarians, done well. The naan's were soft and savoury.

Baked Rasgulla Pie: Icecream paired with a not-so-sweet pie of Rasgullas! A perfect end to the meal.

VERDICT

38 Barracks is not only a restaurant, but an experience. From the time you walk in, to the time you leave, the staff, the food and the ambience will please you. If you're not a hookah lover, the smoke will disturb you, but don't let that distract you from the amazing food on display!
MAKE YOUR BATTALION PROUD!
