NO MELODRAMA AT MEAL-O-DRAMA - REVIEW
MEAL-O-DRAMA, THE MODERN BISTRO - RAJOURI GARDEN
The stretch between Rajouri Garden and Tagore Garden is loaded with restaurants that aim to attract the eyes of potential customers. Some have massive hoardings, some blast music, while some stick to the basics, the food. Meal-o-drama aims to aquire, and retain, customers by offering them a brilliant all round experience as soon as they walk in.
THE AMBIENCE
In very simple words, Meal-o-drama is beautiful. The place has a very soothing, dim lighting while the DJ plays slow, yet fresh, music. There are two seating areas, one on the inside with club-esque lighting and a projector screen. During lunch hours, there was live music as well! The area beyond two glass doors is very classy. The flooring is stone and there are full-walled windows which let you see the busy Rajouri Garden market on the outside.
THE MEAL
The menu at Meal-o-drama is vast! And let me tell you, the choices offered within the cuisines they serve aren't limited either. We started off with a two drinks which were eccentric in their name, their looks as well as their taste! One very citrusy, with a tinge of cinnamon called something along the line of a Fresh Morning, while the other a blue fizzy lemonade called the Electric Lemonade. Both were pretty tangy and refreshing to wash down the heavy carbohydrates we were intaking.
There were pretty good options for the appetisers but we stuck with what works well in North India, North Indian food! We went with the Afro Chicken Tikka to kickoff our meal. The chicken was tender, and the spicy peri-chilli marinade worked well with the chutney-pyaaz combo! Next up, the Italian Sausage Quesedilla was a a gentle reminder that continental food isn't bad either. The heavy cheese and sausage filling between the soft tortilla bread was worth the deviation from North Indian. But going back to our roots was evident as we ordered the Bhatti Ka Murgh which was probably the BEST VERSION OF TANDOORI CHICKEN I've had in a long time! This is why I love Indian food. It never disappoints. But to test that theory, we ordered the Sinful Cruise Ship Platter which was a continental platter including the Mac N Cheese Pizza, Italian Meatballs, BBQ Wings, Fried Fish and Chips! The platter itself was more than enough to fill up two people, but we went ahead and finished everything and prepared ourselves for the main course.
For main course, we went light. Only the following items: A Jalepeno-Olive naan, Peri-Peri Parantha, Rajasthani Laal Maas and Kadhai Chicken. That is all. THAT IS ALL. DON'T JUDGE ME FOR EATING TOO MUCH. THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD. THNX. The meat in both the dishes was cooked beautifully and the spice was just right. The breads were new to me and welcoming!
Finally for dessert, we ordered the Darsan with Icecream! The Darsan is a fried noodle dish, topped off with honey and served with two scoops of vanilla icecream for contrast. The noodles are hot, yeh syrupy and sweet while the ice-cream is smooth and cold. Kind of like Jalebi, but if only the Jalebi was served after noodles.
THE VERDICT
In conclusion, the food at Meal-o-drama was worth the drama! The place is very hip and has a good vibe while the food they serve is perfection as well. Every cuisine they offer on the menu has been paid equal attention and the staff is courteous and always has a smile on their face. The live music was a wonderful addition!
