BACK TO SCHOOL - Review - Prankster
PRANKSTER, SECTOR 29. GURGAON
A lot of restaurants across Delhi NCR have their own niche. Some are famous for their food alone, some have decades of history, some are beautiful while some take credit for their scenic locations. However, Prankster is the king of the classroom! It is a beautiful place with amazing food! It is the best of ALL worlds with a menu to prove it and a decor to slam all doubts.
THE AMBIENCE
Prankster, as the fun name suggests, is a throwback to the best time of our lives, school. The place is divided into sections and every section has a unique decor. From the library to the laboratories to the classroom, every nook of the place is beautiful. The Classroom section has a blackboard with chalk art and the seating is your typical classroom tables and chairs. There is relevant decor on the walls too. The Library section has long tables with lamps over the tables and a projector. The Laboratory has slabs with sinks and chemical racks. You can almost see Chaitali Ma'am scolding students over the other table. ALMOST.
The famous Leisure Valley is also behind the Prankster campus and makes for a perfect evening when you look across the open area with a drink in your hand. There are plenty of funky scooters outside and a jeep for a photo op. Prankster truly captures the look and feel of a campus.
THE FOOD
Now, the food at Prankster is again, very Indian. Or at least it tastes Indian. The Head Chef at Prankster is a very humble human being himself, curating these dishes and trying to recapture typical Indian flavours using VERY not-so-Indian techniques. From Chhole Kulche Donuts to Dahi Bhalla Icecream, Prankster has it all!
THE DRINKS
- Let Us Prank: A refreshingly citric concoction of Orange, Apple, Lime and Peach! Very summery!
- Apple Cinnamon Mojito: A twist on the classic Mojito, this drink had a tint of cinnamon for that extra kick!
- Peanut Butter Shake: My favourite shake of all time, the peanut butter shake is very earthy and rusty. Its smooth and a tad bit bitter with the addition of the peanut butter. A perfect accompaniment to the food!
THE APPETISERS
- Nitro Cooked Dahi Bhalla: I'd seen photos of this dish on social media and I had to try this. IT WAS DAHI BHALLA. BUT WITHOUT THE BHALLA. IT WAS CRAZY! AN ICECREAM THAT TASTED LIKE THE ENTIRE DISH BUT WITHOUT THE ACTUAL COMPONENTS OF THE DISH. WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?!
- Chhole Kulche Donut: Another innovation from the chef, the Chhole Kulche Donut was a stuffed donut with the chhole inside it. Served along with what seemed like a Salan and an Achar infused carrot puree.
- Uttapam Waffle: The healthiest South Indian Breakfast marries the American staple, the waffle! What results is this dish served along side a red-chutney icecream and a coconut chutney mousse.
- Kick-Ass Honey Chilli Potato: Not your usual street side chilli potato. Not even the method of making them is street style! Here, at Prankster, the potatoes are actually first pureed and the fine paste is rolled up into croquettes and fried. Resulting in a crunchy outer layer and a soft inner layer. The taste, bang on!
THE MAIN COURSE
- Dal Makhani with Sour Cream Mousse: Now, we were pretty full with all the appetisers, but you can't really refuse a good old Dal Makhani and a Butter Naan.
- Ghutwa Palak: I never thought Palak could taste this smooth. The dish was a complete overhaul of every memory I had of spinach!
THE DESSERT
Now, I only had just the one item for dessert which was the Mango Swiss Roll Casatta with a Mango Custard. The softest mango swiss roll I've ever had! The vibrant flavours were perfect to end the meal with!
THE VERDICT
In conclusion, Prankster is a complete experience. From the moment you set foot inside the place, you're transported back to your childhood. Nothing sings happy memories more than the good old desks and chairs of the place you spent 12 years at. Here's to the happy life. Here's to Prankster!
