TASHAN MEI! A PERFECT EXPERIENCE - Review

From the moment you enter the busy M-Block Market at Greater Kailash, you're flooded by the bright lights of cafes and eateries all around the place. But from the vivid epileptic lights of the others, the quaint and subtle TASHAN calls you over and soothes your senses. The outside is well decorated with fairy lights and a sign that has just the right amount of light.

THE AMBIENCE

The mood inside the restaurant is calm as it could be. Leave any troubles you had outside the black-tainted doors and let the music prepare you for a pampering to come. The beige and cream interiors are a sight to see and contrast well with the bustling outdoors. There is a bar with a wall of bottles for decor and nothing over the top to distract you from the food. A proper fine dining experience is what you're in for. As soon as you enter, the waiters greet you like they know you from that one time back in class 5th when you went for an interschool competition. THAT IS THE KIND OF DEDICATION I NEED. HE'LL GET ME WATER AND ALSO TAKE A BULLET FOR ME. The service was unbelievable here at Tashan and made me question my decision of going to Fast Food Restaurants with Self Service. I strongly recommend getting a companion here for a date since the manners will be inculcated in you by the end of the day!

THE FOOD

Now, I went into the restaurant expecting some sort of Fusion Cuisine, after reading the reviews online. But, boy, was I in for a treat! Considering it was Friday (SHERA WALI MATA KA DIN FOR MOM), we didn't order any non-vegetarian food. But the Thyme Chicken Tikka was on my mind. Maybe next time!

DRINKS

• Tashani Kiwi: Having had Kiwi Juice back in Mumbai, I was ecstatic to see some Kiwi Concoction on the menu and went ahead with the Tashani Kiwi. This drink was REFRESHING and BRIGHT! Bursting with the sourness and sweetness of the Kiwi. The Chaat Masala was a good touch which cut the Kiwi Flavour well!
• Cranberry Mojito: A classic Mojito with a Cranberry twist. This will knock you right out of your socks with the cranberry punch.
• Mars Shake: A well matched replacement to the typical Oreo Shakes offered by multiple cafes across the Capital.

APPETIZERS

• Mushroom Galouti Kebabs: Now, I know it is your duty as a human to love your mom unconditionally, but I really do love her for making us eat vegetarian food here. The Mushroom Galouti Kebabs served here melted in the mouth. NO EXAGGERATION NEEDED. Paired with a light Raita, the kebabs were brilliantly spiced.
• Baingan ki Chaat: Tashan did it right with its fusion food! Now, other restaurants pair things that don't really go together and call it innovation. But here at Tashan, they push themselves. I never thought the Brinjal (Baingan) would be used in a typical Indian Chaat! The flavour of the aubergine was masked but the texture came through. The best of both worlds!
• Paneer Tikka: The classic vegetarian North Indian Appetizer. NEVER GOES WRONG!

MAIN COURSE

• Cajun Potato and Crispy Okra: Aloo and Bhindi are two things that you'd never see in a dish, let alone taste it. But the main course started off with a pretty good dry sabzi!
• Paneer Hungama: Another dish you'd probably not see anywhere else. Paneer cooked into a spicy gravy. BUT, WAIT! There's more! The Paneer is STUFFED with spices and vegetables!
• Dal Makhani: Another staple cooked brilliantly!
• Assorted Breads: The breads were soft and the umami shone through!

DESSERT

• Bhuni Roti ka Halwa: Now, hold up. Hold just a moment. Stand back and be in awe of this very special, very humble dish that is close to my heart. Probably the one thing that made me forget I was sitting in a Fine Dining Restaurant and took me back to my Dadi's cooking. This Bhuni Roti ka Halwa, served at the perfect temperature, was just sweet enough to count as a dessert and the textures played with the palate so well! Bite after bite and I would pray to the heaven above to not let this Halwa finish. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR. GO AHEAD AND TRY IT!
• Baileys Kulfi with Oreo Crumble: Probably the one time my mother regretted her decision (other than the decision of keeping me). Now, she was in mood for something familar. Kulfi. But little did she know Baileys is an Irish Coffee (Coffee with Alcohol). My father and I LOVED the Kulfi while my mother reassured herself why she doesn't drink. A perfect bitter sweet end to the meal.

THE VERDICT

Not everyday do you get a change to pamper yourself with the food that the world has to offer. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself with good food and great service!
