BATTLE OF THE TANDOORI MOMOS: QDs RESTAURANT
A single person WILL NOT like both, the ones from QDs and the ones from Hunger Strike. There is a stark difference in the way both are prepared.
QDs serves 6 pieces for 150 bucks. Pieces that are massive and dry. But will fill you up nonetheless.
Hunger Strike, on the other hand, bathes it's Tandoori Momos in Ghee, Cream and all the tandoori goodness you associate with typical North Indian Tikka-Shikkas. 8 small, but heavy and creamy, pieces that will fill you up too. All for 100 bucks.
It's the typical case of 'shaadi ka laddoo jo khaye wo pachtaye aur jo naa khaye wo bhi pachtaye'. You HAVE to travel across Delhi to pick your favorite.
Coming back to the actual review of QDs Restaurant in GTB-Nagar... This place is easy to miss if you're casually browsing Hudson Lane for new places to eat, but then again, like so many restaurants in the area, this one makes it's home after climbing a few flights of stairs (laden with graffiti).
QDs surely is more spacious than it's other GTB-Nagar Counterparts like BYD and The Vintage Avenue and has more restaurant-esqe feel to it. Nicely lit up and spread out tables. Uniformed staff and clean decor make it feel like a mid-ranged eatery. BUT, it is pocket friendly.
We went in for a snack and ordered the Tandoori Momos, Chill Potatoes, Fruit Beer, Peanut Butter and Nutella Shake and their 'Gadbad' Sundae.
The chili potatoes were crispy. spicy and had a good flavor other than the spice itself. But what more do you expect from Chili Potatoes?!
The drinks were refreshing and the Peanut Butter and Nutella shake had a robust and earthy peanut flavor to it.
The Sundae was good, but it was just ice-cream and syrup. You can't go wrong with that either.
NOW, their trademark Tandoori Momos. Man, after eating from Hunger Strike all my life, I finally had the chance to try the flip side. These massive soft-gooey-balls. Tandoori Momos, that is.
They looked appetizing, smelled appetizing, tasted like Gobhi ke paranthe. Bummer. Firstly, they brought it out so quick, rather than commending their quick service, I was questioning whether there was an actual tandoor involved or not :P
The momos were dry and tasted like the Gobhi Paranthas mum makes at home and left me with 2 MASSIVE Tandoori Momos that I finished only because of the Mint Chutney they have bottled up on every table.
We finished our meal feeling full and with a taste of their chutney lingering in our mouth. Paid less than a thousand bucks for our meal and walked away into the sunset. The sun, orange, like a QDs' Tandoori Momo.
