BEAUTIFUL NORTH EASTERN AND TIBETAN FOOD IN CHAMPA GALI!

PATTA CAFE, CHAMPA GALI

Patta Cafe is hidden away in the most scenic of places that Delhi has to offer, Champa Gali. It's a beautiful cafe with loads of colors to boast. The open area outside the door is perfect for Instagram worthy content as well!

As soon as you enter, the vibe calms you down. It's like you've been transported to some hillside café in the North Eastern foothills.

The decor, the music, the food, Patta Cafe is all about the roots! Their menu justifies the same. They have a variety of cuisine including Tibetan, Naga, Bhutanese and Chinese.

I would like to take this moment to first mention Tenzin, the friend of the owner who waited our table at Patta Cafe. He was the sweetest server possible. He suggested we try some of the more authentic dishes that they had to offer. So we went with what he suggested.

We went for the Tsampa Shake, which I did not try at Ama Cafe in Majnu Ka Tila because they said it's made from wheat. But here I went with what Tenzin suggested and it was worth it! The Tsampa Shake is made from Sattu. A grain that is used mostly in Bihari cuisine. But in Tibet, they have Tsampa (Sattu) all the time! It's very nutritious! It wasn't sweet, but was very tasty. The lemon iced tea was tangy and refreshing too!

For the food, we ordered Momthuk Momos. Miniature momos served in a spicy broth. The broth was absorbed by the momos and made them even juicier. Every bite was filled with chicken, broth, and spices!

Next came the Chicken Shabhalay, a massive fried momo. It looked like a calzone, but was stuffed with minced chicken. The shabhalay was crisp and flavoursome. It was served with a chili sauce but it wasn't needed because it was so good on its own!

Finally, we got the Sha Datshi. I had the Ema Datshi at Yum Chi in GTB Nagar, and it was great. So I was excited to try Patta Cafe's version of this Bhutanese dish. It's basically a Chili Cheese gravy dish, with chicken, red chilies, green chilies, potato and cheese. It's served with a traditional bread called a Tingmo. A steamed bun which is rolled! The combination of the plain tingmo with the spicy cheesy Datshi was brilliant.

In conclusion, Patta Cafe is a hidden gem. It serves authentic food that you will love. I'm sure every single item on their menu is worth trying. I can't wait to go back!
