DECODE, RAJOURI GARDEN

There isn't a place in New Delhi that is thriving with new diners and cafes more than Rajouri Garden. As soon as one shuts down, a new one opens up. Another entry to this array of restaurants is Decode, touting itself to be a Social Diner. It serves great café style food, while trying to put a new twist on every classic there is.

AMBIENCE AND SERVICE

Decode has a very neolothic ambience. With the walls having LED strips to mark edges and make everything look sharp. There are parts of the restaurant which are dark, making it perfect for some drinks and enjoyment, while some parts are littered with natural light, making it pleasant for family dining.

The Ground Floor
There are three floors to the restaurant, each similar to one another. There are glass bottles on the walls as decor and plenty of paintings depicting some sort of puzzle (hence the name "Decode"). The servers all wear matching clothes and look as sharp as ever with their formal attire.

THE FOOD

I came to Decode aiming to eat very little, in order to not gain a lot, however I was taken by surprise with the amazing quality of the food and the flavours of their combinations. Every dish was a classic, turned on its head.

We started off with some Rajma Chawal Croquettes. To my surprise, this vegetarian dish was not the usual stuff of peasants. The thing that your mom makes, was turned into this modern version which was crusted and then fried. Served with some sort of Achari Dip, this made Rajma Chawal fun! Definitely a great vegetarian dish.

Next up, we ordered the Chicken Malai Tikka and the Thai Chicken Tikka. Both of which were great chicken dishes. The Thai Chicken Tikka was topped with fried lotus stem and had a spicy tone, while the Malai Tikka was smooth and creamy.

The Lamb Chops were somewhat average here. The lamb itself had gone dry. This made it chewy and harder to eat.

On next was the highlight dish of the day. It was vegetarian, but unexpectedly good. What I thought were Pulled Chicken Quesadillas, turned out to be Kathal Quesadillas! Damn! The cheesy, saucy, meaty quesadillas were cooked well and had a nice kick of spice. Served along with a beautiful red salsa, it made my meal complete.

Finally, to cap everything off, we got the Chocolate Dome dessert. A pretty massive dome of chocolate, covering a hot fudgy brownie and some good old vanilla icecream. The steward came in and poured some hot white chocolate over it and the dome gave way to the creamy goodness inside it. The hot brownie along with the cold icecream made everything worth it!

THE VERDICT

Decode in Rajouri Garden tries to make a name for itself in a market full of competition. It serves great café style food along with a few neo-classics. It'll be tough trying to stand out, but if they make it through, success won't be hard to decode.
